Short Story

LESOTHO BORDER TWO BORDER is the brainchild of 19-year-old adventurer and runner, Joel Smith from East London, who is using his passion for adventure sport and the great outdoors for a greater purpose than himself!

He and his dad, Martin Smith will be tackling the mountain kingdom of Lesotho in December this year and are going to navigate approximately 250kms from the capital of Lesotho Maseru to Qacha’s Nek.

Joel’s heart is for these orphaned and abandoned young children and by doing this they will be raising much needed funds for The Kings Childrens Home.

The Kings Childrens Home receive no government subsidy or any financial assistance from the state, and therefore rely heavily on inspiring young people like Joel and Martin to help them stay afloat

Story

The King’s Children’s Home is a safe house for babies and young children that have been abandoned or abused. They are based outside of East London, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Babies who come to The King’s Children’s Home have been found dumped in bushes, in black bags on the side of the road, left in government hospitals, left on doorsteps or sometimes handed in by family members who are not able to care for them. Many of the children are from prostitutes, or have been affected by drugs, alcohol abuse or poverty.

Social workers or police who find the children bring them to The King’s Children’s Home, which provides a secure,  safe and loving environment while their cases are investigated.
